About the Lodge
The original and longest-standing lodge inside Akagera National Park, standing on a hill at the southern tip of the park, elevated above the savannah with sweeping views over Lake Ihema, Rwanda's second-largest lake. For many years it was the only accommodation in the park. Since 2018 it has been managed by the Mantis Collection, with significant refurbishments to its rooms, restaurant, bar and pool. A convenient base a few minutes from the south gate, ideally placed for game drives, Lake Ihema boat safaris and night drives, and notably the most family-friendly option in the park (the only one accepting young children).

Akagera Game Lodge offers 60 en-suite rooms and suites arranged over two storeys, all decorated in contemporary African style and ranging from singles, doubles and twins to family rooms, executive suites and luxury cottages. Each room features air conditioning, satellite TV, a work desk, a mini fridge stocked with water and wine, a laptop safe, hairdryer and electric kettle, plus a private balcony or veranda. The larger downstairs rooms open onto the savannah, while the upstairs rooms offer elevated panoramic views over Lake Ihema and Lake Shakani. Beds come with fitted mosquito nets, and several rooms interconnect for families.
