Lake Mburo National Park – Wildlife Safari : Self Drive Africa

Location

Its located in Nyabushozi county, Kiruhura district east of Mbarara city 240km (150 mil) west of the country’s capital Kampala. The park was established in 1983 on a 370 square km the smallest in Uganda.

The park is endorsed with a variety of amazing animals including the impala, eland and klipspringer (the only one in Uganda). The park is also place for the largest number of zebras in the country over 5,000 zebras and also has the largest number of leopards found anywhere in Uganda. Lake Mburo national park is also inhabit Buffalos, waterbucks, and warthogs. In the lower valley of the park, Reedbucks are mostly spotted plus the hyenas bush pigs and the white tailed mongoose are mostly seen by the night drives at the park.

The park consists of wetlands in the lower areas both seasonal flooded and permanent swamps of which many swamps inhabited reptiles, birds, shy, rare Sitatunga antelopes. The park also known for the flinging vegetation and its delightful to take a boat ride and experiencing the parks moods watching hippos, crocs and a large number of African fish eagles The park is also among the best place to spot the African fin foot and white backed heron and so many water birds.

The park is also famous for rich variety of bushy thicket, open savannah woodland forests and the variety of plants that would surprise the visitors

The park is also seated on the very ancient Precambrian metamorphic rocks (more than 500 million yrs.) The Mihingo Lodge was constructed on the hard outcrop rock that gave it firm base for the buildings though its surrounded by lakes and some swamps.

A rich luxury and local hotel and lodges surrounding and near lake Mbuuro national park with all best services that suits every visitor with camp fire and luxury rooms, some lodges are made from local materials that a visitor must not mice. These include, Hyena hill lodge, Wagga resort, Igongo cultural center among others that give best services to the visitor and most of them are not far from the park

Game drives

Lake Mbuuro has over 68 mammals and over 350 bird species in high concentration. There wildlife including the giraffes, hippos and many crocodiles though many can be seen well in a boat cruise and also watching the birds which tend to be on the lake in guise of fishing looking for food

Horseback riding safaris

The national park has the capacity for someone interested in the viewing exercise to use a hose. The activity can’t be found anywhere else in the country only done at Mihingo lodge under a trained guide. This activity can take 1-3 hours as the visitor explore the nature and wildlife around the National park

Nocturnal night game drive

Lake Mbuuro offers nocturnal drive for wildlife and birds. Researchers and other visitors are given a chance to make night drives in search for these night walker animals and these include illusive leopards, porcupine, white tailed mongoose and not forgetting the night sounds of animals and birds like hyena, buffalos, and bush babies

Boat cruise at lake Mbuuro national park provide a visitor with fresh air from the lake winds, viewing flora and fauna and also watching the lake shores. Here, many animals are seen mostly during the dry season like crocodiles, antelopes, buffalos, and others some looking for water and others waiting for other animals as food.
