About the Lodge
Perched on the very top of a hill in the Nyamasheke district near Nyungwe Forest National Park, this hotel is named for its incomparable panoramic views, which on a clear day stretch across the forest canopy to Kahuzi-Biega National Park, the surrounding tea plantations, Lake Kivu, the volcanoes and Idjwi Island. Opened in 2011, it sits a few kilometres from the Gisakura Tea Estate and reception centre, making it a practical base for chimpanzee trekking, the canopy walkway, birding and forest trails. A round two-tiered rondavel houses the reception, bar and dining areas, with cottages arranged along the lawns on either side.

En-suite bathrooms with basin, toilet and shower
Nyungwe Top View Hill Hotel comprises just 12 red-brick cottages arranged along two sides of a lawn flanking the central rondavel, each with a bedroom, a small lounge with a fireplace and terracotta-tiled floors, and a private balcony framing sunrise or sunset over the hills. Rooms come as twin, double/queen or triple, furnished simply but spaciously with netted beds, African-patterned throws and traditional imigongo artwork, and en-suite bathrooms with a shower (some with baths). Comfortable, spotlessly clean and full of view rather than glamour.
