Best Time to visit Nyungwe forest National Park

Nyungwe National Park is accessible throughout the year; however, the optimal periods for trekking and hiking occur during the dry seasons, specifically from June to September and December to February. During these times, the trails are less prone to mud, facilitating easier wildlife observation.

The Nyungwe forest has a wide diversity of animal species, making it a priority for conservation in Africa. The forest is situated in a region in which several large–scale biogeographical zones meet, and the variety of terrestrial biomes provides a great span of microhabitats for many different species of plants and animals. The park contains 13 primate species. Over 275 bird species, 1068 plant species, 85 mammal species, 32 amphibian species, and 38 reptile species. Many of these animals are restricted-range species that are only found in the Albertine Rift montane forests eco-region in Africa. Activities of Nyungwe Forest National Park

Chimp tracking

This national park has a large population of Chimpanzees. And many who visit the park often go on a chimpanzee tracking. It can be done all year round.  The chimpanzees are not habituated like the gorillas, so there is no guarantee of a sighting at the particular places. But more often than not, you will find the chimpanzees because they are quite common in the forest. The chimps are not as settled and orderly as the habituated gorillas are, which makes for an exciting activity as well. With trained and experienced guides, you will, of course find the chip

Nyungwe National Park has a variety of monkey species, including the rare and elusive golden monkey.
