When to go
Rwanda is a year-round destination, but the dry seasons (June–September and December–February) offer the best trekking conditions, with drier, less slippery trails for gorilla and chimpanzee treks and the clearest forest views. June–September is the long dry season and the most popular time, so book permits well in advance. The rainy seasons (March–May and October–November) bring lush, verdant forests, fewer crowds, and atmospheric misty conditions photographers love. Gorillas are present year-round, and the rain mostly keeps tourists away. Note that gorilla permits stay the same price in Rwanda regardless of season, though lodges often discount. For gorilla trekking, the real answer is often simply whenever you can secure a permit.
